How To Take The Land

How To Take The Land

“If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence — Let us rather live and die in the wilderness, with thy presence and favor, than go into Canaan without it; for even that promise of rest I regard not unless thou be with us, and accept us. Thus he shows how highly he valued the special presence of God.”

Exodus 33:15-16

What Moses is saying to God here is if you are leading us to take the promised land (property) and this is truly You leading, I need you to confirm you are surely going with us. Because if you don’t go we are not moving! This is the exact attitude you need to have. You need to get confirmation from God for any endeavor in your life: taking physical land, career land, relationship land. Whatever land you are believing in, you want to make sure the Lord is with you.

We can’t be led just by opportunity. When you are led by opportunity you must recognize not every opportunity is from the Lord. Sometimes the enemy will bring opportunities that look like the Lord but are not from Him. We must not be led by fleshly ambition. This is a big one because sometimes people have secret fleshly ambitions that have been in their heart since childhood. These can sometimes become motivators and are usually secret fears. They are seeking approval from men. They want the accolades that come with certain levels of success.

You have to die to fleshly ambition. This is a strong statement and may not be popular but it is powerful. There is godly ambition but then there is also fleshly ambition. The danger with fleshly ambition is in that world you can be deceived. You will be led by your flesh and not your spirit. You really have to challenge your motive of why you want the land. Is there pride or ego involved? These are dangerous things. As you grow in the Lord you will find yourself realizing more and more no matter what you accomplish for God, He will ALWAYS get all the glory; we are His stewards over everything He blesses.

It is powerful, once you have a word and confirmation from God. Now, you have access to whatever God says is yours. God gave Moses the promised land and access but old fear, unbelief, and discouragement came in: There are giants in the Land! You can’t do it. You don’t have the money. You don’t have what it takes. Once you have access from God you have confidence and boldness. The word of the Lord guarantees the Lord’s presence will be with us.

If you want to date/court somebody you want to make sure the Lord is in it. This is the purpose for dating/courting as you pray through it to confirm this is God’s choice for you. This should be a process for every land you endeavor to possess. When the Lord is in it, you are guaranteed success. When He is there so is His favor, provision, strength, health, protection, and victory!

1. Importance of God’s Direction

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

The enemy does not want you to take land because he knows once you occupy so will God. The enemy doesn’t necessarily mind if you rent a property, he does not want you purchasing. He knows once you own that property, that land and title deed belongs to the Kingdom of God.

When you want to take land and start possessing for God you’re going into warfare. If you own it as a steward, God can operate the land through you. We know God owns everything but in a sense, who is occupying that land is going to run it. If evil occupies, then evil will be done there. If God’s people occupy, then God’s will is committed.

This is why you must get a clear word from God prior because there will be warfare and a battle to you taking that land. A word from God brings His favor, presence, protection, provision, strength, health, success, and victory.

2. Who Is Your ‘Us’?

“For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;”

Acts 15:28

In this scripture the early church was making decisions and they said something very interesting in this scripture. They mentioned: it seemed good to us and to the Holy Spirit. When God starts leading, there must be confirmation from you and a trusted set of individuals who have stood the tests of faith and seasoned with wisdom. Find your us. In my life, before I take a step of faith for land, start a new business, buy property to further the Kingdom of God, I first consult the Holy Spirit and then I have my us.

In the early church their partnership was not just with anybody. It was their eldership, their apostolic government of the church. These were seasoned men who through battle had obtained walking by faith. Find your trustees and bounce off what you are feeling what God is saying to you because you are seeking confirmation. Spiritually minded people will be able to discern if it is trustworthy what you are hearing.

How many people have wasted years of their life because they never consulted wisdom. “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us.” This brings a plethora of challenges. We are now talking about who you look to for mentorship, discipleship, and who speaks into your life. The church was created to be governed by authority, not abuse or manipulation. There must be government. God built this to protect his people. My decisions could potentially affect thousands, even millions of people. If it is from God, spiritual people will agree and confirm. These are people I trust, who have produced in the Kingdom.

I have seen countless people leave the church attempting to live independently and years down the road end up shipwrecked. They end up messing with their family and further bloodline. When you make bad choices you shrink the confidence in your marriage because you are untrustworthy toward your wife. Your children will go in the direction you take them. You cannot do everything on your own, instead be led by God. The more you let great people speak into your life, the more God will trust you. The less great people speak into your life, the less God will trust you. Accountability is a very important topic.

Make sure you have a word from God. A word from God will work every time, all of the time, and will not fail. It does not matter what giants, challenges, or warfare comes your way. When the Lord’s presence is with you, you cannot lose. You may go through a season where it looks like you are losing. But it will always pan out the way God said because God is not a man whose word returns void!

3. Breaking From Selfish Motives

Sometimes we have things in our heart we don’t even know are there. I believe one of the ways is to get in the presence of God and check your motive for everything you are believing in from Him. This will determine if you are being deceived or being led by the wrong motive. Spend quality time with God and bring that land to the Lord. Ask Him and yourself why you want this land. It may be a desire He put in you and that is a green light.

If you do not have peace in your heart, there is something that is not settled, don’t go against that. Wait until you have the green light in your spirit. That is how God leads. You put the candle in the dark and that candle can lead the way. The Bible says your spirit is the candle of the Lord.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

John 14:26

Final Thoughts

God will speak to your spirit about people, situations, opportunities, what is of Him, and what is not. This scripture is saying the Holy Spirit will lead and guide you into all truth. You have the Holy Spirit in you and so should your us.
